Learn to use your ME80 better! Have you wondered whats the point of the factory presets: "Wah test CC11", "RG use wah", "RG use wah2" and "Deep Rythm Pad". The ME80 (and the Yamaha CS80) has a 1 pole filter in its effect chain to do wah effect. It is set up to respond to CC11 (normal CC number for expression pedal). Or you can automate CC11 from your DAW. In addition I made a knob for the wah value (WAH on the GUI) so you can play with the wah value directly with your mouse just to test how it sounds, in a hope that it will motivate you to set up a proper expression pedal. You will see that the WAH knob will move when you send CC11 signal to ME80.
The function can also be set to "EXP" and then it is just plain volume control, like you would expect an expression pedal to operate. The Yamaha CS80 came with a set of pedals, so it is important if you want the right CS80 experience.
And we have more filters. The EQ section is actually filters. While we were working on the ME80 we discovered that eq freq changes in real time was great fun. It was impossible to implement midi-learn in the EQ section, so we gave it some fixed CC numbers so you can control it from your keyboard, or automate it from your DAW: (Full list of pre-set CC numbers)
CC1 Mod wheel
CC2 Breath control (routed to the aftertouch system inside the synth).
CC7 Master volume
CC11 Expression pedal. Routed to the Wah section in ME80. There is a selector in ME80 to select exp, wah or exp+wah.
The wah-knob is simply a monitor for the expression pedal, it will move when you move the exp pedal. You can right-click to set it to another value than CC11 or unlearn it. It is very useful for instance if you have no sound, then you can look at the wah/exp-knob and see its position.
CC25 pre EQ mid band freq (can be unlearned).EQ band CC's are pre-set for the Novation Launchpad mini knobs 5,6,7,8.
CC26 pre EQ mid band gain (can be unlearned).
CC27 post EQ mid band freq (can be unlearned).
CC28 post EQ mid band gain (can be unlearned).
CC64 Normal Sustain pedal , or longer release when the "Sustain foot switch" is activated, and portamento off/on when the "Portamento footswitch" is activated. When "Sustain foot switch" (release foot switch) is off, and "Portamento footswitch" is off, then the sustain pedal will just do sustain like a normal synth.
From the list above you see that sustain pedal CC64 can be set to control 3 different things like on the Yamaha CS80: Sustain, release or portamento.
Sustain1 and Sustain2 mode: This affects release. Most factory preset is set to sustian2 mode. This gives release only to last played note(s).
I get many mails from confused users claiming that the release in ME80 is buggy. The Yamaha CS80 was like this in sustain2 mode. To cure this and get normal relase: Set it to sustain1 mode.
